About this story

Granny Hoot tells the story of Lila's Brave Little Song, set on the day of the Sunset Show. Lila the bunny loves to sing to the daisies, but when Tamkin cheers that he will play his drum at the show and she says maybe she can sing her song, her ears droop and her tummy feels wiggly. She tells Wobble she is not sad, she feels shy, and he gives her a hug. Fenna builds a little twig stage, and Bimble will play his ukulele.

At practice, Lila steps onto the stage, but with her friends watching, only a tiny squeak comes out and she hops behind a big leaf. Tamkin suggests closing her eyes, and she ends up singing to a bush, which makes everyone giggle, though she still feels shy. Bimble explains that he climbs the big hill with one little step, then another. Lila sings to a tall pink daisy, then to Wobble, and then asks him to stand with her.

At sunset, with fireflies glowing, Lila squeezes Wobble's wing, says, "One little step," and begins to sing while her friends listen with shining eyes. Tamkin and Fenna cheer, and Lila thanks Bimble with a hug. Lila and Wobble sing One Little Step. Little ones can learn that when they feel shy, they can be brave one little step at a time.
