Gather round with Granny Hoot for a cozy claymation story and a sing-along song: little ones learn that when something feels scary, we can ask why and look closer with a friend. 💛

About this story

On a cozy glow night in Hootenhollow, Granny Hoot invites little ones to gather round as the first stars peek out. Fenna shows Lila the glow lamp, and Lila says it glows like a little moon. Tamkin zooms in for the night picnic, Bimble slowly pushes in a basket of clover cookies, and Fenna sets the lamp behind the basket so the oak tree glows.

Then a giant round shadow with one curly feather rises on the trunk. Lila gasps and asks what it is. Tamkin shouts shoo, but the shadow copies him, and he dives behind a bush. Lila sings it a lullaby, and it dances. Bimble hides in his shell. Fenna feels a little scared too, yet she asks, "But why is it there? Let's find out!" Bimble slowly agrees, and holding paw and foot, they tiptoe closer.

Behind the basket, they discover Wobble wiggling in front of the lamp. When he walks away from the lamp, his shadow shrinks, and when he walks back, it grows. Everyone giggles, and soon a shadow show begins with a fox head, bunny ears, a swishy tail and a slow turtle. Tamkin says that next time he will ask why instead of shoo. Little ones can learn that when something feels scary, they can ask why and look closer with a friend.

What your child learns

When something feels scary, ask why and look closer with a friend.

Song lyrics

The song in this episode: Shadow, Shadow, Who Are You?

Shadow, shadow, who are you?
Big and round and wiggly too!
Ask 'But why?' and look and see,
Hold a paw and come with me!

Tiny duck by the lamp so bright
Makes a giant, what a sight!
Step back, shadow small, small, small,
Step close, shadow tall, tall, tall!

Shadow, shadow, who are you?
Big and round and wiggly too!
Ask 'But why?' and look and see,
Hold a paw and come with me!
