About this story

Granny Hoot greets the little ones from her balcony in the giant oak tree house and asks if they have ever made a mistake. In the flower meadow, Fenna proudly shows Lila the leaf pinwheel she made from a twig and four big leaves. It spins in the breeze, and Lila hops and claps. The two friends go off to find more big leaves.

Then Tamkin runs in, tossing his red ball. He backs into the pinwheel with his fluffy tail, and snap, the twig bends and a leaf falls off. Tamkin hides it in the bush, but Wobble finds it right away. Tamkin tries to fix it fast with sticky mud, and the leaf flops onto his nose. Long grass only tangles him up. When Bimble asks about the mud, Tamkin hurries off. His tummy feels all wobbly.

Lila finds him sad on a mossy log, and Tamkin tells her everything. She says telling the truth is brave and walks with him to Fenna. Tamkin says he bumped the pinwheel and hid it, and he is sorry. Fenna feels a little sad, but she thanks him for the truth, and together they fix it. With Bimble's tip about two strong twigs, they make a brand-new pinwheel that spins fast and strong. Little ones learn that telling the truth is brave, even when you make a mistake.
