Gather round with Granny Hoot for a cozy autumn claymation story and a sing-along song: little ones learn that good things take time, and waiting is easier when we do something fun. 💛

About this story

Granny Hoot opens the story from her balcony in the giant oak tree house, asking little ones if it is hard to wait sometimes. It is pumpkin picking day in Hootenhollow. Lila hops around her big orange pumpkin and Wobble pats his small one, but when Fenna lifts a big leaf, her own pumpkin is tiny, round and green.

Fenna does not want to wait. She makes a sun-catcher from a golden leaf and a long twig, but Tamkin waves it so fast that the leaf flops down and puts the pumpkin in the shade. Then Fenna pats orange leaves all over it, with Wobble's help, until the wind whirls them off and buries Wobble in leaves. The pumpkin is still green, and Fenna feels fidgety and cross.

Slow, kind Bimble explains that pumpkins need lots of sunny days to turn orange. Good things take time, he says, and waiting is easier when you do something fun. So every morning Fenna gives her pumpkin a little drink and a pat, then goes off to jump in a leaf pile with Tamkin and count raindrops with Lila. One bright morning she lifts a big green leaf and finds a round, bright orange pumpkin, and she proudly shows it to Granny Hoot.

Little ones learn that good things take time, and that waiting is easier when we do something fun.

What your child learns

Song lyrics

The song in this episode: Good Things Take Time

Good things take time, take time! (take time!)
Good things take time, take time! (take time!)
Sun and rain and sleepy nights,
Little pumpkin, shine so bright!

Wiggle paws and wiggle toes, (wiggle, wiggle!)
Waiting's hard, everybody knows!
Jump in leaves and sing a song, (la, la, la!)
Play and wait, it won't be long! (hooray!)

Good things take time, take time! (take time!)
Good things take time, take time! (take time!)
Sun and rain and sleepy nights,
Little pumpkin, shine so bright!
