About this story

On the first frosty morning in Hootenhollow, Granny Hoot announces today's story, Lila's Big Thank-You. In the sparkly meadow, Lila finds her little pink flower drooping. Granny explains that it is sleepy for winter, and together they tuck it in under a blanket of brown leaves. When Granny flies off, Lila decides that a little thank-you is too small for someone who helps everybody. She wants to make a big, big one.

Tamkin zooms around and sweeps up a giant leaf heart, but it turns out lumpy, and Lila says it looks like a big potato. Fenna makes jingly acorn bells, but when she shakes the twig, every cap flies off. Lila sits down on a mossy log feeling sad, and slow, kind Bimble joins her. Nearby, little Wobble thanks Granny Hoot for finding his acorn, and her heart goes warm. Bimble says that a thank-you is a hug made of words.

Lila realizes it doesn't need to be big, it only needs to come from her heart. She hops to Granny's round red door and says it, and the two sing Thank You From My Heart. Then Lila thanks Tamkin, Fenna and Wobble too, and the friends share warm acorn cocoa, with Bimble arriving slowly, as always. Little ones learn that a thank-you from your heart is the best little gift.
