Winter is coming to Hootenhollow, and Granny Hoot wants to fill a big empty basket with acorns. Fenna rushes off to build an acorn cart, and Tamkin scoops acorns into his yellow backpack faster and faster. Little Wobble wants to help too, but the bulging backpack is too big for him to budge, and the heaped cart is too heavy to pull. When the twig handle pops off, Wobble tumbles into a pile of orange leaves. Tamkin and Fenna carry the acorns away themselves, and Wobble is left feeling too little to help.

Then slow, steady Bimble sits down beside him and shares a secret: a squirrel carries just one acorn at a time, and one by one it saves lots for winter. Wobble holds up one tiny wing, takes a single acorn, and cheers, "I can!" He waddles to the round red door and plinks his acorn into the basket, and Granny Hoot thanks him. Soon Fenna's cart is stuck, too wide for the round doorway, until Wobble shows everyone how to carry one acorn at a time. Tamkin, Fenna and Lila all join in.

Bimble arrives last with his own acorn, and Wobble places it on top of the full basket. Granny Hoot hugs him and says that yes, he helped too. Little ones can learn that big or small, everyone can help, one little bit at a time.
